March 2023
March was not too eventful for us, and the weather was variable as it has been most of the winter: a couple warm days, a lot of chilly days, and a couple snowy days. Here are the rest of the photos and videos from the month.
Outings and Adventures
Rob: We had one snow storm in the middle of the month that produced enough snow to go sledding, so we took advantage of that while we could. That snowman in the picture above only lasted a few days though, so it was a short window of snowy enjoyment. There is a video below of us going down a long hill at a nearby park, which Alex has watched dozens of times on my phone. He has ben really excited about sledding lately. Sadly, it has been a near-record low snowfall year here in the Hudson Valley, but maybe we'll get more in April.
We had a nice visit to the town of Warwick, NY one Saturday, where there is a top-notch public library and a a top-notch public playground. Alex has really been into books and puzzles lately, and we enjoyed both at that library (and were even able to bring a puzzle home with us). It was a nice day outside as well to enjoy at the playground, then then we got Mexican food (or, a NY approximation of it) at Taco Hombre. Warwick is one of several rural Hudson Valley small towns that seems to have attracted a lot of young urban professionals (yuppies) and people from NYC looking for some air to breathe. It's a cute little town.
We found another place in our area with lots of arcade games: the Fun Castle in Chester, NY. So that's exciting news. We went there on the first and last weekends of March. They also have a bunch of other fun things like bumper cars and inflatable play areas, so it's a pretty happening place for kids. But the arcade games are Alex's thing right now. Alex got to have his first virtual reality experience on a game there, but his favorite is the Typhoon game that moves around and shakes and blows air in your face.
New Jobs at Church
Rob: We have been in our church congretation here in the Hudson Valley for about 3 years now, which is long enough for us both to be released from our old church callings and receive new church callings (not that there is a formal time period that decides when it is time for a change, but 3 years is probably about average). Both the Elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies were changed in the ward. That meant that Becky was released as a Relief Society counselor (and called into the Primary presidency), and it also meant that I was called as the new Elders quorum president (and released as Executive Secretary). We are both excited to have a change of responsibilities and work with new groups of people.
Becky: As Rob mentioned I'll be working in Primary instead of Relief Society soon. I will definitely miss working with Debbie (RS president) and others in EQ and RS, but change is good. Debbie was actually in the calling for 4 years so she definitely needs a break. One thing I am looking forward to is just playing pickleball for the last RS activity that I'm in charge of. The activity may or may not draw a crowd, but I like the idea of trying out the new court in the gym and just doing something that I particularly enjoy as my last hurrah.
Looking Ahead...
In late April / Early May, we will be in Utah (SLC area) for the wedding of Becky's little brother Nate. Becky will also spend a few days in Arizona visiting her dad, who has been getting settled in a care facility in the Tucson area.
