October 2020
Being surrounded by fantastic autumn foliage, it was hard not to take a lot of photos this month. You can see all of them here.
This month was Becky's birthday. You'll see some video of her opening presents, some of which were also for Alex. I wanted to also give Becky "an experience," so I got tickets to the Storm King Art Center. I saw an article about it in the New Yorker and thought it seemed like a unique thing to check out, since we've driven by the entrance of it many times without knowing what it is. It is a 500-acre outdoor exhibit where the three of us could walk around and look at weird giant metallic structures scattered about a bucolic landscape. We are always going on walks, so it was nice to take a walk somewhere a bit different. You'll see some photos of that place and the artwork, and also some photos of us hanging out at another place in our area that also has large metallic pieces of art nearby a pizzeria that we eat at sometimes.
The pumpkin patch photos are from Dubois Farm - one of the most popular pumpkin patches in the area and one of many farms where people go to pick their own apples and other produce. There were a ton of people there. We also had a couple trips to the Walkway Over the Hudson park - the large bridge over the river with a nice 1.5 mile walkway. I took some nice pictures of the Fall leaves from there. We also enjoyed some nice Fall colors at the Orange County Arboretum, Goosepond Mountain State Park, Bowdoin State Park, and Winding Hill County Park, among other places.
We spent the weekend of Halloween (Thursday until Tuesday) at our house in Endwell. We didn't do anything too special for the holiday besides make some warm meals and enjoy being in a larger space than our 1-bedroom apartment affords. Some neighbors put on elaborate Halloween displays for trick or treaters, of which we only had a few. I think people might just go trick or treating to houses of people they know.
In other news, we are trying to get Alex in the habit of using a potty. He gets a toy car as a reward if he does a bowel movement on the Fisher Price throne. Potty training might be a long road, but he seems to have more awareness of his urge to go (as are we), so it seems like the time to do it. He's also working on animal sounds, which is cute even when he gets them wrong.
Alex loving the pumpkin patch.
Early birthday resent for Alex on Becky's Bday.
Still working on animal sounds.
